You would be hard pressed to find a person that hasn’t been impacted in some way by the Covid-19 pandemic. Both businesses and individuals have had to navigate a less than ideal landscape throughout the past 6-7 months. To support local businesses and residents of the state, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) recognized the need to stimulate locally produced food. The Hunger Task Force was awarded funding from the DATCP to be allocated to certain food providers. The purpose of this grant is to support Wisconsin’s food producers and farmers through the purchase of foods that will feed the hungry.
Hunger Task Force is located in Milwaukee and partners with organizations across Wisconsin that operate emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters. It is these locations that will be provided the food that is produced via this grant program. For the past 20 years, Hunger Task Force has served Milwaukee’s growing poverty population during shifts and changes in the economic landscape. Low-wage jobs continue to force more families into situations where they must choose between feeding their children and paying the bills. Over time, Hunger Task Force has taken food banking to the next level, serving as the state’s primary administrator of several federal commodity programs, including The Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Commodity Supplement Food Program or Stockbox for hungry seniors.
Wenzel’s Farm is pleased to announce that we have been selected by the Hunger Task Force to be one of the producers of the food to fulfill the needs of this project. Wenzel’s will be responsible for fulfilling three separate orders of Skinless Wieners and Bratwursts throughout October and November, totaling 70,000 lbs. of Hot Dogs and 15,000 lbs. of Bratwurst. Wenzel’s award-winning wieners and brats are a fan favorite and will be a perfect fit for the program. Wenzel’s is extremely grateful for the grant support from the DATCP and Hunger Task Force. We look forward to doing our part to help feed the hungry throughout Wisconsin and the region.
